There is widespread consensus among scholars that second language acquisition (SLA) emerged as a distinct field of research from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

There is ? a high level of agreement that the following questions have possessed the most attention of researchers in this area:

?Is it possible to acquire an additional language in the same sense ? one acquires a first language? ?What is the explanation for the fact ? adults have more difficulty in acquiring additional languages than children have? ?What motivates people to acquire additional language?

From a check of the literature of the field it is clear that all the approaches adopted to study the phenomena of SLA so far have one thing in common: The perspective adopted to view the acquiring of an additional language is that of an individual attempts to do so. Whether one labels it “learning” or “acquiring” an additional language, it is an individual accomplishment or what is under focus is the cognitive, psychological, and institutional status of an individual. That is, the spotlight is on what mental capabilities are involving, what psychological factors play a role in the learning or acquisition, and whether the target language is learnt in the

classroom or acquired through social touch with native speakers.

1．语篇连贯与语义衔接。第一段用的是consensus，第二段用的是agreement，用another来修饰agreement连接两段不合适，所以在a前面加also衔接语篇。

2．在表达“吸引注意力”的意思时，一般用attract等词与attention搭配使用，且多用于主动语态。 3．表示“与……在同样的意义上”的意思时，后面应加as，也符合固定搭配…the same as…。 4．本题考查同位语从句，同位语从句的that一般不可以省略。

5．language teaching是抽象名词，表示泛指概念，不具体指定哪一门语言教学，所以不需要用定冠词the。

6．在某个领域用 in the field。

7．of后面不能跟句子，所以将attempts改为attempting。

8．根据上下文，or所在的位置并无表选择的需求和意思，如果用了or句子逻辑显得混乱，影响句意表达，所以这里用and顺承上下文意思。

9．根据上下文，involving所在的句子表达的是焦点在于涉及了什么样的心智能力，所以这里需要用be involved表被动，involving表主动，使用错误。 10．社会接触应该是“social contact”，touch一般指触摸。

SECTION A CHINESE TO ENGLISH

When I graduated from elementary school, relatives and friends all suggested that I should be sent to learn a trade to help my mother. I knew that I should try to make my own living, to alleviate my mother’s burden and hardship. I myself, on the other hand, wished for higher education. I secretly took the exam and was admitted to a normal school which provided students with all the necessities — uniforms, books, board and lodging. Only then did I dare to break the news to my mother. To attend the school though, 10 yuan must be paid as guarantee deposit, which was a huge sum of money! For half a month, mother took pains to tide over the awkward situation till she finally collected enough money and then saw me off with tears. She would go to any length to see her son make something of himself. The day I finished normal school and was appointed headmaster of an elementary school, we both were too excited to sleep a wink that night. All I could manage to say to my mother was. “From now on, you can afford to have a rest!” And her only reply was a stream of tears.
