1． through prep. 穿过;通过

The river runs through our village. 这条河穿过我们的村子。 across prep. 横越,穿过

2. forest n.森林

He lost his way in the forest. We went to the forest on horseback.

Mrs. Anne Sterling did not think of the risk she was taking when she ran through a forest after two men. They had rushed up to her while she was having a picnic at the edge of a forest with her children and tried to steal her handbag. In the struggle, the strap broke and, with the bag in their possession, both men started running through the trees. Mrs. Sterling got so angry that she ran after them. She was soon out of breath, but she continued to run. When she caught up with them, she saw that they had sat down and were going through the contents of the bag, so she ran straight at them. The men got such a fright that they dropped the bag and ran away. ?The strap needs mending,‘ said Mrs. Sterling later, ?but they did not steal anything.‘

3. think v. 想;思索

I think he will come.

4. risk n.危险，冒险

take a risk 冒险

He took a risk when he crossed the old bridge. 他冒险过这座旧桥。

6. picnic n.野餐

have a picnic 野餐

7. edge n.边缘

at the edge of 在……的边上 The park lies at the edge of the town. 公园位于镇边上。

Ladies plan to meet at the edge of the forest. Please sharpen the edge of this axe. 请把这把斧头的刃磨快。

8. steal v. 偷,窃取[(+from)]

I think someone has stolen my jacket. 我认为有人偷了我的夹克 Steal papers from the safe. 从保险箱窃取文件。

rob v. 抢劫,劫掠,盗取[(+of)]

They robbed the jewelry store in broad daylight.

9. struggle v. 奋斗;斗争[(+for/against/with)][+to-v]

They struggled for peace. 他们为和平而战。

10. strap n.带，皮带

The strap needs mending.被带需要修理。 I like the red handbag with long strap. We got the strap. 我们被鞭打了一顿。

11. possession n.所有

in one‘s possession为……所有 His possessions could fit in one suitcase. 他的全部财物可以装在一个手提箱内。

With his usual possession, he answered all the questions.

12. breath n.呼吸

After all that running, he was short of breath. 那样跑了一阵之后,他气喘吁吁了。

I'm out of breath after running up the stairs.
