参考范文:Extravagant Spending on College Campus

According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the society. This extravagant spending is primarily caused by the following factors.

First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only children of their families. They are the apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. In addition, with the improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tend to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.

From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer, should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.

2. 作文题目:Starting Career in a Big City or Small Town?

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic Starting Career in a Big City or Small Town? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese: 1) 很多的大学生毕业后留在大城市工作;

2) 也有人选择到小城镇开始自己的职业生涯; 3) 结合自己的实际情况谈谈自己的想法。

参考范文:Starting Career in a Big City or Small Town?

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when starting his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in big cities, which mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation。

But some other graduates intend to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management's attention and may win promotion earlier。

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can

meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

3. 作文题目:

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic The Prevalence of Western Holidays. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1) 中国传统节日受到冷遇,西方节日却日益升温; 2) 形成这种现象的原因; 3) 你对这种现象的态度。

参考范文:The Prevalence of Western Holidays

It is noticeable that western holidays arebecoming increasingly popular day by day, whileChinese traditional holidays are being somewhatneglected. Old people often complain that ChineseNew Year has lost its real meaning. To theirastonishment, young people in China who areignorant about Chinese traditional holidays are crazy about Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

There are several possible reasons for this phenomenon. First, western nations, such asthe United States and Britain, are powerful and dominant in every aspect. Everything in thesecountries is assumed to be superior and adored by some modern young people. Second, theprevalenceof English as a world language and the development of globalization enable westernculture to prevail in China. Overwhelmed by such a trend, Chinese unconsciously get involvedin western culture. Last but not least, some Chinese people have blind faith in foreign thingswhile miss our own possessions with contempt.

I am critical of this trend. China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. Inmodern times, Chinese tradition should be preserved and promoted. But it seems that youngpeople no longer treasure the traditions. On the contrary, they turn to pursueenthusiastically a supposedly more modern culture. If this trend is allowed to continue, thepriceless heritage of our ancestors will be replaced by western traditions. Nobody expects sucha consequence. So let’s join hand in hand to protect Chinese tradition, especially traditionalholidays.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic What Is in the Way of Paying Back the Loans. You should write at least 120 words and base your composition on the outline given below in Chinese:

1) 目前一部分学生是通过银行贷款完成学业的; 2) 但是有少数学生毕业后没有按时还贷;

3) 你认为有哪些原因,应该如何解决此类问题。 参考范文:What Is in the Way of Paying Back the Loans

Ever since colleges started to charge the students for the education they receive, there has always been a problem for some students, especially for those from remote rural regions, to get the money for it. So the government offers them an option of borrowing money from banks. Surveys show that the number of students financing his

education in this way is increasing.

However, some students, although not many, failed to pay back the loans as they had promised in the contract. The banks have a very hard time coping with this problem. And the government can do nothing effective to help the banks.

I think there is more than one reason for this. Dishonesty may be one but not the major one. As is known, we are experiencing a particular phase of economic development where the supply of human resources is much bigger than the demand for it. So many students are not able to find a well-paid job. How can they pay the loans back? To solve this problem, I think the government should make efforts to get the whole economy go smoothly, creating more job opportunities.

5. 作文题目:Generation Gap

Directions: Write a composition entitled Generation Gap. You should write at least 120 words according to the outline given below in Chinese:

1) 现代生活越来越好,但老年人和年轻人之间的代沟却依然不可逾越 2) 产生代沟的原因 3) 解决的办法

参考范文: Generation Gap

Though many aspects of our social life have been improved, the generation gap between the youths and the olders remain and even grows wider.

In my opinion, because of the influence of individualism from western civilization, the youths do not blindly follow what the elders say, that causes the gap. The young arecreative and revolutionary, always go along with the trend and like changing. While the old, accustomed to everything of the past, are hostile to change. Also with more and more different beliefs and philosophical ideas, it is natural the young hold different opinions from the old.

I think in order to narrow the gap, both parts should try to understand and respect each other, instead of trying to change others as they wish. Diversity doesn't mean conflict so long as they hold the right attitude towards the problems.

Due Attention Should Be Given to Speaking

Nowadays fewer and fewer students pay attention to their spoken English, which results in a dramatic increase in the number of students who can spell English words but are incapable of speaking them fluently or correctly. This phenomenon has aroused many people’s attention.

Why does such a phenomenon emerge? As far as I’m concerned, there are
