W: Hi, Peter. We’d better book our flight for the meeting in New York. Do you prefer to take a flight on Wednesday or a flight on Thursday?
M: Wednesday’s flight would be better. That way, we can take a short break before the meeting begins on Friday morning. Text 2
W: Fred is very happy. M: Which one is he?
W: He’s short with big glasses, but actually his eyes are a bit small. He is in front of Lily with short brown
hair. Look, there. Lily is the tall girl with long hair. M: Oh. I see him. Text 3
M: This copy machine broke down again! I’m worried because I need to make copies for my presentation tomorrow morning.
W: Don’t worry. Why don’t you keep preparing for your presentation? I’ll call the technician about fixing it. Text 4
M: I think we need to hire several part-time workers to help us move the office.
W: You’re right. We can’t do all the preparation work ourselves. Let me search for a hiring agency to find us some people as soon as possible. Text 5
M: I need to confirm the position of the bookshelf first so that we can have the books placed correctly. But the library director hasn’t come in yet. Do you know his mobile phone number? W: Actually I have his business card in my car. I’ll go and get it. Text 6
W: Tony, can you tell me why Baja California is popular for vacations?
M: It has coasts on the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, so tourists can enjoy sea life such as dolphins, whales, and unusual fish. Its beautiful mountains and deserts are also excellent for hiking and sightseeing. W: Can anyone own a home in Baja California?
M: Yes. You don’t have to be a Mexican citizen to own property here. Many vacation homes belong to people from other countries, especially Canada and the United States.
Text 7
W: Mike, let’s go to the cafeteria for lunch tomorrow.
M: All right. But why the cafeteria? You know, I don’t really like the food there. It’s awful.
W: Well, my brother and I usually eat there. I can show you my favorite cafeteria foods. I know what’s OK to eat and what not to eat. M: Sure. That would be great.
W: I mean, it is cheap. And we can eat there pretty quickly, so we won’t be late for our afternoon class. M: That’s true. When will we be there? At 12:30? W: How about 15 minutes earlier? M: Sounds good. See you tomorrow. W: See you then.

Text 8
W: So Mr. Clinton, could you tell us what an engineer does every day?
M: Well, there are many kinds of engineers, such as computer engineer, software engineer or electric engineer, but I’m an industrial engineer. I look at our processes here at the factory, and I search for any problems. W: What do you do if you find a problem?
M: I give a presentation to my managers. We have a meeting, and I explain the problem to them. We try to find ways to solve it. W: What happens next?
M: They usually follow my suggestions.
W: So the managers here have a lot of respect for you.
M: Yes, I believe they do respect me. It’s one of the reasons I like my job.
W: Well. Thank you very much for taking time out of your busy schedule today to give us this interview. Text 9
W: Good morning, sir. Can I help you? M: Yes, I want to buy an electric fan.
W: We have many brands. What kind are you looking for?
M: That’s the Great Wall fan advertised on TV recently. And my sister has just bought one. It looks like it is a good-quality fan that will work even if I run it all the time.
W: I’m terribly sorry, sir. The Great Wall electric fans are sold out. You can choose some other brands which are much cheaper.
M: That’s a pity. Well, when will you have some more of this kind?
W: We’re expecting some new ones tomorrow. And you can order one today. You know it’s quite a popular brand.
M: Then I’ll have to come again tomorrow.
W: I’m sorry you took the time to come here. By the way, if you need one badly, you might be lucky at our other store on Main Street.
M: Thank you. I’ll go and have a look. Text 10
W: Hello, everyone. My name is Alicia, and I live in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. Today, I’d like to tell something about my hometown and people here. Here in Guanajuato, music and dancing are a big part of life. There are a lot of festivals here, and many kinds of music. Many young people like rock or pop music but my favorite kind of music is traditional Mexican music, which is the kind of music my grandparents
and great grandparents listened to. I don’t know why but I’m just crazy about it. I’m a folk dancer, and I love to perform at special events, which give me chances to enjoy myself. To be a folk dancer, you have to love the culture and the music here. That’s the most important thing, but we also need to work hard and practice a lot. We dance in groups, and every person has to know the steps. And we can’t buy traditional folk dancing dresses at the store, so we have to make our own. We wear traditional dresses that only come from this part of Mexico.

【答案】A
根据文章第二部分“Description”中的“...our Golden Tours guide will meet you at chop’d coffee shop...where you’ll receive a welcome pack in exchange for your tickets. 【答案】B
【解析】细节理解题。根据文章第三部分“Paris at Your Leisure”第一段最后一句“An audio guide(音频指南) is also provided.”

As WWF’s Arctic and Bering Sea program female officer, I connect the dots between polar bears, climate change, and indigenous communities. I lead WWF’s efforts to help polar bears and other Arctic marine mammals coexist alongside people.
When I was in college, I majored in Russian and soaked up everything I could about the country. The
day I graduated, I learned I’d won a chance to study community theater in Irkutsk, a large city in Siberia. There I picked up some environmental knowledge when volunteering with a conservation group and learned loads about Arctic ecosystems and species. Four years later, I moved to Alaska where occasionally WWF’s Alaska office was looking for someone who could speak Russian. They hired me and I’ve been with WWF ever since, coordinating conservation projects between Russian and American research teams.
My ability to move between cultures has proved just as critical to my work at WWF as my technical expertise. The people who live and work in the Arctic represent many incredible backgrounds and opinions—Alaska Native communities, government agencies, activists, people with different nationalities. You can’t do
conservation work here without recognizing the ideological and cultural barriers those differences can create. And if you can recognize them, you have a far better chance of overcoming them.
Thus when I first go into an Alaska Native community, I never start by talking “human-polar bear conflict”. Instead, I ask them what’s happening with polar bears in their village. And I listen. Once I’ve learned the language they use to talk about polar bears, we can work together to find solutions. Although these Alaska Native communities I work with are living in the remotest parts of the state, I rely on them to share those solutions with other Alaska Native communities.
24. When did the author begin to work for WWF? A. During her time in college. B. Since she graduated from college. C. Before she studied in Irkutsk. D. After she came to Alaska.
根据文章第二段最后“Four years later, I moved to Alaska where occasionally WWF’s Alaska office was looking for someone who could speak Russian. They hired me and I’ve been with WWF ever since”可知,作者是在搬到阿拉斯加后,才受雇于世界自然基金会的,一直工作到现在,由此选D项。
25. Which of the following shows the right order of the events? a. I majored in Russian and learned everything I could about the country.
b. I coordinated conservation projects between Russian and American research teams. c. WWF’s Alaska office was recruiting and I got hired.
4
d. I studied community theater in Irkutsk. A. adcb. B. abdc.
C. dcab.
D. bcda.
【答案】A
根据文章第二段“I majored in Russian and soaked up everything I could about the country. The day I graduated, I learned I’d won a chance to study community theater in Irkutsk...Four years later...WWF’s Alaska office was looking for someone who could speak Russian. They hired me and I’ve been with WWF ever since, coordinating conservation projects between Russian and American research teams.”

D. There are many difficulties to overcome in the Arctic.
根据文章第三段的“The people...represent many incredible backgrounds and opinions...You can’t do conservation work here without recognizing the ideological and cultural barriers those differences can create.”
27. How does the author help communities to solve human-polar bear conflict? A. By living with native communities. B. By talking about human-polar bear conflict. C. By working together to find good ways.
D. By showing the importance of protecting polar bears.
根据文章最后一段的“...we can work together to find solutions.”
C
Being bored is no fun, especially at work. There’s nothing worse than finding yourself bored in your office on a Monday morning only to realize there’s still four and a half more days to the weekend. But new research out of the Research School of Management at Australian National University argues that while boredom is certainly boring, it isn’t all bad. This bored mental state can actually spark precious creativity.
The study asked 52 subjects to do a pretty boring job: Sort apart a bowl of red and green beans with just
one hand for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, 49 other subjects—the control group—were instructed to create art projects with paper, beans, and glue.
Once the 30 minutes was over, each group was instructed to spend five minutes on a creative task: they had to come up with reasons why a hypothetical(假设的) person was two hours late for a meeting. What the researchers found was that the bored group came up with not just more ideas than the control group, but more creative ideas than the control group, too. The quality and quantity of production was higher for people who were bored than those who were not.
A similar follow-up study also took measurements of other mental states—namely, frustration and anger. And it found that, despite some previous research that implies boredom can lead to lack of motivation or dissatisfaction at a job, boredom didn’t produce unwanted emotions that could be detrimental to mental health. In this case, people who were bored were just bored, and they walked away with a net benefit of creativity.
“Boredom is not necessarily miserable and harmful based on my research,” says the study’s lead author, Guihyun Park. “People want to get out of a boring state, so they are induced to novelty-seeking unique thinking, which brings out creativity.”
28. What can we know about the 52 subjects? A. They often felt very bored. B. They always thought of weekends. C. They were asked to do creative work. D. They were required to sort beans.
文章第二段第一句提到“The study asked 52 subjects to do a pretty boring job: Sort apart a bowl of red and green beans with just one hand”(这项研究让52名受试者做了一项相当枯燥的工作:只用一只手将一碗红豆和绿豆分开),因此可知D项正确。 29. What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A. The bored group was as creative as the control group. B. Bored people could work better than those who were not. C. The two groups carried out a same 30-minute task.
