Chapter 1: Introduction 课 时 2 This is the core chapter. Its purpose is to induce the general contents of international economics. In this chapter, we will discuss the importance of international economics, the relations between international trade and the nation’s standard of living, the contents of international trade and the current international economic problems, and the structure of the course and the teaching schedule. The Subject Matte of International Trade The Purposes Of International Economic Theories And Policies The Current International Economic Problems We can ask the students to describe how the world economy is closely related and discuss how international economics can suggest ways to solve international economic problems. In this chapter we will examine the development of trade theory form the 17th century to the first half of 20th century. This historical approach is useful not because we are interested in the history of economic thought as such but because it is a convenient way of introducing the concepts and theories of international trade from the simple to the most complex and realistic. The Law of Comparative Advantage and the Gains from Trade; The Opportunity Costs and the Basis and Gains from Trade (These are the heart of the chapter). The Shape of the Combined Supply Curve for Wheat and Cloth. Theoretical and numerical analysis will be utilized in this chapter.
