1.论交友 On making friends

What is a friend? A friend is a teacher who teaches us things about life and the world. He is an advice who gives us valuable advice when we are at a loss. He is also a supporter who comes to our help when we meet with difficulties. In the company of our friends we will never feel lonely.

An old saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend in deed”. True friends cherish the same ideas and feeling with us. The more the friends we have, the easier and more meaningful our life will be . If , on the contrary , we have no friends or only a few friends. We will find life meaningless.

Nevertheless, we should be careful in choosing friends. Sometimes, we may finds a “friend’ not as good as we expect him to be. Instead of giving us help , he turns away. Besides, there are some friends ,who , instead of helping us to be good, just teach us to do the opposite. So we should be cautions and make friends with those who are honest , modest and dependable.

People’s views on learning English vary from person to person. Some think in today’s world we need to make frequent contacts with different people in different parts of the world, so it is absolutely necessary to learn English . Others consider English useless. They feel learning English is nothing but a burden . But I regard English as one of the most important subjects . Of all the subjects I like English best. There are several reasons why I like English best.

Firstly, English is one of the most widely used languages of the world. Nearly all information on the Internet and over half of the world’s technology materials are in English. Therefore , a good command of English will greatly benefit me in my work.

Secondly, as the world becomes more and more globalized, we need to learn modern technology in order to catch up with developed countries. A solid foundation of English means chances and opportunities . In the competition for a well-paid job, the one who can speak fluent English has an advantage over those who cannot.

For all these reasons we should not only learn English but master it in the shortest time possible.

3.Studying Abroad, Hardships and Rewards.

Nowadays more and more young people are going to study abroad. Like everything else, studying

Abroad has both favorable and unfavorable aspects. Generally, the favorable aspects can be listed as follows.

First, they think by attending a college in a foreign country they can not only acquire useful knowledge of science but also the culture and customs of other nations. Secondly, they can take advantage of this opportunities to gain a good command of the target language , Moreover they can meet different people and enjoy different culture, which may help to broaden their views.

Every coins has two sides. The negative aspects are also apparent. When they study abroad, they have to pay a lot of money. In order to help bear the financial burden , most overseas students have to seek for employment during the vacation, which can not allow them to focus their attention on studies. What’s more, they face language obstacles and homesickness.

However, in the long run, the students will discover that the benefits of self – dependence and the mastery of a foreign language often outweigh the hardships experienced in their foreign studies, By studying abroad they will be able to learn more advanced science and technology than they do in their own country. These benefits often take the form of a well-paid and satisfying job and are the major rewards most of the students studying abroad expect.

Through above analysis, we can see that the positive aspects out weigh the negative ones. Therefore , I am in favor of going to study.

4.On Wenchuan Earthquake

A strong earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008. People in disaster-stricken area have suffered a lot. Misery of losing home as well as family members have thrown them into deep sorrow. Seeing the photos on the Internet and newspapers, I kept asking myself, “What can I do to help them lessen their burden?”

Like many other classmates, I’ve donated all the money I save and I’ve also given away many books and stationary in order to help those children who now aren’t able to go to school. Besides, I’ve written some letters to the kids at my age, trying to encourage them and cheer them up.

Blood is thicker than water. Though the earthquake is merciless, people in every corner of our country are all eager to give a helping hand. I strongly believe that where there is love, there is a way. Hand in hand, heart with heart, we Chinese people shall overcome all the difficulties and brand new homes shall be rebuilt soon.

5.No Sweet without Sweat

“No Sweet without Sweat” is a proverb which means no success can be achieved by a

sudden flight. The way to success is filled with various kinds of difficulties and obstacles.

It is known to all that if a sportsman wants to win the first place, he will have to train hard. Why does the Chinese Women Table-tennis Team do so well? It is because they all train hard. This also explains why Wilma Rudolph, who hadn’t been able to walk for one third of her life,

became the first American woman to win three Olympic gold medals in track.

“No Sweet without Sweat” is certainly true of study. We all know time wasted never returns, a moment lost, lost for ever. If we want to study well, we should, first of all, devote our time and energy to our studies.

A year ago, my English was very poor. Encouraged by our teacher, I started working hare at it. When I have difficulties, I always ask for help. I practice reading every morning and never leave today’s work for tomorrow. I have made rapid progress and my English is quite all right now.

6. Cultural Relics

How to protect the cultural heritages in our country

The Great Wall is one of the seven wonders of the world and a symbol of the ancient Chinese civilization, but now it is in danger and some day it may disappear because of some local people’s destruction.

What a pity! As we can see, some other valuable and important relics in our country have been destroyed as well. Why are some people dong that so foolishly? Because the local people are not aware of their importance. Cultural heritages are left to us by our ancestors and are also a symbol of their wisdom, which played a very important role in history.

How should we protect our cultural heritages? In my opinion, firstly, we should make people who lack of cultural knowledge know about the importance of the history relics. Destroying them means destroying ourselves. Secondly, the government should take some measures to protect them, and if necessary, laws will be made to punish those who destroy them on purpose. Only in this way can we make our history richer and richer.

What’s more, they make our life richer and more colourful. Just as the saying goes,” All work and no play makes Jim a dull boy” .So people of all ages enjoy watching and taking part in various kinds of sports- skating, swimming, basketball, football, baseball and so on.

Sports and game are also useful in character training. They demand not only physical skill and strength but also courage, enthusiasm and teamwork. For boys and girls, what is learned in the playground often has a deep effect on their character. If every one of them learns to work for his team and not for himself o the basketball field, he will later find it natural to work for the
