大学英语（四）选修课程简介
1. 陈冬兵: 大学英语四级(读写) College English band 4 (College Writing with Readings) 全英文教学，以利于培养学生实用英语的好习惯。内容涉及对英语国家主流英语媒体文章的篇章分析(结构、思路、逻辑、论据、例证等)和词汇与表达的积累与相应话题写作训练。旨在提高实际英语技能、加深对英语世界与本国社会与文化的理解。
Using English as the Medium of Instruction, this course focuses on training of thinking and strategies related to writing with intensive readings. It involves in-depth reading of articles from publications from English speaking countries and analyses of the structures, ideas, topic development, organization, and supporting of these passages. Writing practices are also part of this course with which students can try and improve their writing through imitation and independent writing.
2. 陈国卿: 英语报刊选读 Selected Readings from English Newspapers & Magazines
本课程从报刊英语的词、句、篇等层面入手，总结阅读的理论、方法与技能，让学生了解西方社会的政治、经济、文化等领域的发展动态，在对比阅读和分析中掌握报刊英语阅读的原则与方法，提高英语水平和批判性思维能力。
The course offers students a wide range of knowledge and in-depth analysis of incidents and events in English newspapers and magazines. The students can gather information on varied subjects including social, political and cultural issues to improve their vocabulary, grammar and critical thinking skills.
3. 方芳: 中国文化英语教程 An English Course of Chinese Culture
本课程旨在帮助学生了解中国传统文化中的基本知识，开拓学生的东西方文化视野，增强参与国际文化交流活动的能力，同时培养学生对祖国优秀文化的热爱，增强民族自豪感与爱国主义精神。
This course is aimed to help students understand the basic knowledge of traditional Chinese culture, broaden their vision in Western and Eastern culture, develop their international communication ability. In the meantime, it will help to cultivate the enthusiasm about Chinese culture, and build up patriotism among students.
4. 关欣: Ted演讲视听说 New Experiencing English Viewing Listening and Speaking
本课以TED演讲为基础，通过不同形式的练习达到让学生体会到真实语境中英语语言的魅力，并且提高听力能力；通过快速问答，练习学生基本口语能力和对基本知识的掌握；通过开放性问题，引导学生分析和讨论，练习学生在多轮谈话中的表述能力；从听说同时入手提高学生分析问题，表达观点的综合能力。
Based on the materials of Ted Talk, the course let the students to experience the authentic language. Through different exercises, it practices students’ listening ability. The quizzes practice students’ basic speaking ability and the open questions practice the students turn-taking skills in a long conversation. From both listening and speaking, the course will also practice students critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
5. 郭亚娟: 美国文学与文学选读 American Culture and Selected Reading on Literature 本课程为美国文学文化简介性质课程，整个学期需要讲解4部美国文学经典作品。初步了解美国文化历史根源和特点，初步了解美国文学作品及其历史背景等相关知识，从而对外语学习的文化目的性有所了解，并初步产生对文学作品的兴趣，掌握相关的文学鉴赏技巧。
This course is intended to be an introductory course on American culture and literature for college students. The three lectures on American culture will offer a general introduction to
traditional American values , American religious ideas and the history of American dream, so that students will come to realize the ultimate purpose of learning a second language, that is, to understand culture through language learning. Besides, students are required to have a detailed reading on selected chapters of four American literary works. They need to think deeper on what they have learned about American culture while reading the works before they come up with their opinions on how to assess their literary value.
6. 江春兰: 美国短篇小说选读 Selected Readings in American Short Stories
本课程赏析爱伦?坡|、海明威、霍桑和马克?吐温等美国作家经典短篇小说，让学生体验原汁原味的英语，同时引导学生赏析小说的主题、背景和写作技巧等，从而提高学生的英语阅读和文学鉴赏能力。
In the course, I choose some classic American short stories by Allan Poe, Hemingway, Hawthorne, Mark Twain and other writers, giving students a chance to appreciate the beauty of English, helping them to analyze the social background, themes, and writing techniques of the short stories, and thus improve their ability and taste in appreciating literature. 7. 雷应传: 英语口语训练 Spoken English Practice 本课程以项目学习（PBL)为主导思想，以小组协作的形式开展课堂讨论及口语训练。学生通过摄入大量最新时事语言材料，扩大词汇量，增强语感。其课程目标是学生能就某一话题用英语做小组演示。
This course is Project-based, and all the classroom discussions and speaking practices are group-based. It aims to enlarge students’ vocabulary and proficiency in English by taking in extensive amount of updated English materials in the from of reading and listening so that students can make group-based presentation on a selected topic.
8. 梁玉娟: 从阅读到写作 Introduction to Reading and Writing
通过课堂学习，阅读综述性文献，学生对西方国家有一个基本了解，能对某一话题进行讨论并撰写英语文章。通过本课程的学习,让学生拥有丰富的人文内涵和广阔的背景知识，同时提高他们的跨文化交际技能与写作能力。
College English Four provides students with the opportunity to intensively study news, film and documentary works originally written in English. The main focus of the course is to develop reading, writing, research skills as well as students’ critical thinking. The students are encouraged to integrate the intellectual concerns of other fields into their study of the western culture. This course aims to help students be familiar with their culture and understand the talks and speeches of the native speakers. The students are able to express opinions on some hot topics and write an essay in English with good logic.
9. 罗道云: 大学英语写作 Writing Development with Readings
本课程将写作与阅读视为一有机体。学生在阅读理解的背景下研习写作技巧，实践写作过程以达到写作和阅读的要求。同时，书写各种结构清晰流畅，观点明确的段落和短文不仅可以提高学生的高品质语言的产出，还有助于发展其批判性思维。
Writing Development with Readings is a course in the fourth stage of College English, which is a compulsory basic course offered to non-English majors. The course will focus on writing and reading as integrally related skill. Students will learn writing bases and practice writing in the context of the reading comprehension with the goal of accelerating the pathway to the English reading and writing requirements. Students will also develop critical thinking skills and the ability to create clear and correct sentences as they write a variety of focused, developed, organized paragraphs and/or essays.
10. 徐姜琴: 英美国家社会与文化 American and British Society and Culture
本课程面向已经通过大学英语三级的学生开设，旨在满足学生更高的学习需求。内容涵盖英美国家地理、历史、政治、经济、社会、文化、教育等方面的基本知识；通过指导学生学习相关的英美社会文化背景知识，使学生更好地理解和掌握英语语言知识，进一步提升学生英语综合应用能力；培养学生的国际化视野和跨文化交流的意识，提高学生跨文化交流的能力。
This course is designed to introduce the students to the society and culture of the major English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom and the United states. A very general picture of the countries will be presented in terms of the geographical features, their people, historical events, the economic and political systems, customs and education. The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with some basic cultural information about the English-speaking countries. It also aims to provide the students with a sense of awareness of cultural differences and intercultural communicative skills.
11. 严建明: 实用英汉对比与翻译 Contrastive Study and Translation between English and Chinese
该课程先介绍一些基本翻译理论和技巧知识，然后详述英汉两种语言的主要差异。通过英汉对比和实用翻译技巧训练，加深学生对英汉两种语言主要差异的理解，从而有助于他们获得更加符合目标语的翻译文本。
First of all, this course gives students a brief introduction about some basic translation theories and some specific translation skills. By comparing the two languages and learning some practical translation skills, they will have a better understanding of the dissimilarities between English and Chinese, and will be able to acquire an accurate translated texts tailored to the target language.
12. 游淑芬: 英国简史 An Outline History of England
本课程按编年史顺序讲述英国历史，时间从罗马人来到不列颠之前直到二十世纪，着重于从1066年起至20世纪约一千多年间的发展情况。内容包括英格兰与苏格兰、爱尔兰、威尔士的关系，大英帝国的形成及其对美国建国的影响。
This course is prepared to guide the students to the main aspects of English history from pre-Roman Britain up to the mid-20th century. Students will also be guided to how England became united with her neighbours, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and how together they formed the British Empire and played an important part in the formation of the United States of America. 13. 丁燕蓉: 英语小话题 Small talk
本课程将引导学生学习与当代社会生活相关的权威报刊的评论文，对其进行细读后，分析其表达方式、用词特点、结构形式、修辞手法、思维习惯和写作风格；同时，结合现实生活中息息相关的话题，对其涉及的观点进行思辨，阐述自己的观点和看法。
This course will offer the students some essays of senior writers, professors, columnists, and the like, concerning the current life, education, social problems and whatever. The students are required to carry on close-readings of the essays, analyze their expressions, dictions, structures, rhetorical devices, mindset and writing styles. Meanwhile, in combination of the related topics of the realities, it is a must for the students to have critical thinking on the views involved, and air their own ideas and opinions.
14. 范小玫: 美国短篇小说选读 Selected Readings in American Short Stories
《美国短篇小说选读》(Selected Readings in American Short Stories)是一门高级阅读课程。本课程的主要内容：通过ppt介绍一些文学术语、小说阅读技巧和作家其人其作，布置
