Nowadays, increasing museums offer visitors free admissions such as the National History Museum, the Military Museum and the Medicine Museum. What is the purpose behind this phenomenon? It is primary aim to expand citizens’ horizon. visitors can acquire new knowledge and enrich their lives by visiting various museums.

Recently, people take a fancy visiting prestigious universities in that the scenery on campus is equally beautiful as in those scenic spots. Yet, this hot issue has caused wide concern, giving rise to opposite opinions among the public.

The majority of people have formed an unrealistic picture of opening the campus to the tourists, imagining this as a way of making profits while taking full advantage of natural scenery and academic atmosphere there. Unfortunately, some others strongly oppose this owing to the potential danger of spoiling the quietness and interrupting the educational seriousness in the ivory towers.

Accordingly, I reckon that it is acceptable and profitable to open the university campus for sightseeing. While at the same time, we should bear in mind that the fundamental function of universities is to impart theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills. 2006年6月24日
