(Text 3)

W: I bought this CD in your shop last week. But it suddenly didn’t work yesterday,

and I believed it was not caused by human error. M: Sorry, I will change it for you. (Text 4)

W: Shall I get back by train?

M: Well, Mum, the train’s almost as expensive as flying and takes much longer. I’ve booked a

flight. It lands in Glasgow at 4 o’clock. And then we’ll hire a car to drive you home. (Text 5)

W: The exam is finally over. Our school camping trip is coming. I think we should prepare for it. M: OK. We need to buy some bread, cook pots, spoons, plates, cups, and so on. We’d better make a list. W: Good idea. (Text 6)

M: This year I want to get a new job.

W: Really? You just said your boss has praised you recently.

M: Yeah. And I make good money now, but the hours are long. How about you? What do

you plan to do this year?

W: I’m not sure. This year I want to meet some new people and do something fun. Maybe

I need a hobby. I love to dance. I’d like to study modem dance.

M: You should take a class. Then you can do something fun and meet other people too. (Text 7)

M: Of the three apartments, which one do you like best?

W: The one on Park Avenue has a good view, and a very cheerful kitchen. M: Yes. But there is no good place to put a desk.

W: That’s true. You could put it in a comer of the living room, but then you wouldn’t

have any privacy, and the bedroom is too small.

M: Right. And l need to be able to leave my work out on the desk without having it

looked at by noisy visitors.

W: Oh, I do agree that the desk shouldn’t be in the living room. What about the

apartment on North Parade? It has a dining area. We could eat in the kitchen,

and put the desk in the dining area. It’s more private there. M: Yes, that sounds good. (Text 8)

M: Have you decided which language you’re going to do at college? W: Spanish.

M: Mmm ...Spanish grammar is the easiest to learn.

W: Well ...that’s not the reason I want to study it. Spanish is an important world

language, and I’d like to work in South America one day.

M: I see. What about the other language? You’re going to do two, aren’t you? Have

you thought about Russian? Your grandmother would be delighted?

W: I know she would. Her parents were born in St. Petersburg, weren’t they? M: Yes, but they came to England just before your grandmother was born... W: Well, anyway. I don’t think I’m going to do Russian. I’d like to do Chinese.

I’ll have the chance to spend six months actually studying the language in China. M: Your mother and I will worry about being thousands of kilometers from home. (Text 9)

M: Well, how was your honeymoon?

W: It was great! And Florida had great weather when we were there. The only problem

was that because it was their high season, we wasted hours queuing. M: Did you take any pictures?

W: Yes. I’ve got quite a few pictures. How about your holidays? M: My friends and I just got back from Bali.

W: Wow! Bali Islands have some of the best beaches in the world, don’t they? M: Yes. My friend’s father owns a hotel on one of the islands, so we were able to stay for free.

W: Did you go diving while you were there?

M: No, I didn’t really like it, so I played beach volleyball instead. W: By the way, have you started planning your Christmas vacation yet?

M: We’re planning to go skiing in Switzerland. Would you like to go skiing with us

for Christmas?

W: I’ll talk to my husband about it. He loves Switzerland. (Text 10)

W: Hello, everyone! I’m Susan. I began to work on the radio at the age of twelve. I used to call up the radio station quite a lot, answer questions and quizzes and

all that sort of things. One of the announcers thought my voice was nice so he wanted me to come and work for him.

The first couple of days I had no idea what was going on. There were a great number of microphones in front of my face and I was told to make this show fun and interesting. It was a challenging job because I had to come up with clever ideas at once. But the topics were quite simple. They were mainly about music.

My parents were very proud of me. At the age of twelve, their daughter was a DJ. What could be better than that? I remember they would listen to my program every single time, record it and then listen to it over and over again when they could. It was a big thing to be a radio person then being only twelve.

Now I’m 17 years old. Some of my friends ask me if I would be a DJ for a long time. Well, I really enjoy it, have a lot of fun and never get fed up with it. But it is a hobby. It is never something I want to do for life.
