We use the present perfect tense to talk about things that started in the past and still have some connection with the present. Eg. She has lived in Nanjing since 1995. Eddie has lived with Millie for four years. 2. Tell students the structure of the verb : have / has + past participle The negative structure : have has not + past participle 3. Tell the students that a few verbs can help them recognize the use of the present perfect tense. Tell them the use of “ for “ and “since”. Give more sample sentences. 4. Explain to students that the present perfect tense can also be used in sentences without the adverbs which determine its definite use. In those cases, students need to understand the function of the action affecting the present, eg. She has arrived. We know that she has arrived some time before now, but we do not know when. The simple past tense is used if we have a fixed time, eg. She arrived this morning. 5.
