Analysis of the character of Hamlet
Abstract
Hamlet is one of Shakespeare's four famous tragedies. It represents the highest artistic achievement of Shakespeare. What the Hamlet shows is the epitome of the era, whose eternal charm is not entirely from the plot of the play and the incomparable writing technique. What is more, the most important part is the analysis and disclosure of the society. Hamlet is also a brave and daring character. When we learn Hamlet we should emphasize on his melancholy and hesitation. He is well-known as a “melancholic prince”. But he wasn’t born a melancholic man. Although the play has a concise story, it is filled with many uncertainties relating to different issues behind the plot. The reader is left with many uncertainties about the true feeling of prince Hamlet. To analyze Hamlet’s true state of mind is to analyze William Shakespeare’s great tragedy itself. This paper begins in three parts which are the humanism, the beauty of tragedy and the contradiction. Through the analysis of the author’s descriptions of the character Hamlet, I
summarize the complex characteristics of Hamlet.

Chapter 1 Introduction
Shakespeare is the father of English literature. His writing is one of the greatest achievements in the art of the world, which occurred and developed in social and culture life during the Renaissance. Hamlet (1601) is the representative of Shakespeare's tragedy, which is one of the most successful tragedies in his life. Before Shakespeare, this story was adapted many times for popular revenge drama, but only Shakespeare’s Hamlet could be able to perform wonders. Its content and form bring a fresher face than the old, which is a miracle in the history of European drama.
In different times and different classes, the curiosity of readers, viewers and critics to the Prince Hamlet is increasing. They make a lot of comments for Hamlet’s unforgettable artistic image from their point of view in different layers. Unfortunately, the comments of Hamlet's characters are still significant difference so far. In this article, I will analysis of the complex character of Hamlet from the following three aspects in details.
The first part of the work is from the point of humanism. To be a humanist, Hamlet was so kindhearted that he cherished the hope for the future and the human beings. What a young and happy prince Hamlet showed for us at the first of the novel. The second of paper is from the point of the beauty of tragedy. Hamlet who was a prince of the former King in Denmark without any troubles but to be a person in solitary splendor only had the duty to avenge in his life. The last part of the text is in the point of contradiction. When Hamlet was in trouble, he showed a strong face to all of us, but when he was along, he was so lonely and frail that he had no ideas but to cry. To avenge, he used what he could do. But when the opportunity was coming, he began to hesitate. He was optimistic and pessimistic, and he was of love and hate. It were those contradictory characters that showed us a miserable Prince image whose fate was full of tragedy doomed.
In this paper, we can understand the hero’s life in a variety of scenes and find out his complex characters through the analysis of the characters of the novel's actions and speech.
