梗概： 老太太许诺医生治好她的盲眼后给医生一大笔钱，但复明后老太太发现家里的财产不翼而飞，拒付费用。 关键词： blind （瞎的、失明的） sight （视力） steal （偷窃） court （法庭） judge （法官） A rich old woman became blind and asked a doctor for help. She said if he was able to return her sight, she would reward him with a large sum of money. But if he failed and she remained blind, the doctor would receive nothing from her. Although the doctor was not willing to accept the old woman’s suggestion, at last he agreed. But the dishonest doctor had a plan to make sure he would get his money no matter the result. Each time he visited the woman’s home, he stole some of her valuable things. Little by little the doctor stole everything she owned. Finally the doctor made the woman see again. The woman saw her empty house, and knew the doctor had stolen everything. So she refused to pay him any money. The doctor became angry and took the old woman to court. Standing before the judge, the old woman admitted that she had promised to pay the doctor if he could make her see again. But she said the doctor had failed. “When I was blind, I had many valuable things in my house, but now I can see nothing.”
