The history of Chinese ping-pong

Good afternoon ,boys and girls! Did you guys watch the 2016 Rio Olympic Games? What kind of sports do you like best? And which athlete do you have the deepest impression of? 张继科？马龙？符慧园？孙杨？Well ,I have to say that I like 张继科most after watching his performance in the table tennis compititions Olympics.And here comes the topic of my speech today ——the brief history of Chinese table tennis.

In February 1904,the table tennis was introduced into China from Japan.At the very beginning,a stationer(文具商）in Shanghai (called 王道平) brought 10 pairs of table tennis equipment from Japan and gave performances in his stationery store.And the trend of playing table tennis was then wild spread .

During 1925 to 1935,China took part in a series of table tennis competitions/matches held in Asia but (we) only won a very small number of medals ,because at that time ,we didn’t have professional training skills and scientific systems.It was a tough time in Chines history. Later,after the foundation of the People’s Republic of China,the government paid special attention and gave great supports to the table tennis’ development.Chinese table tennis enjoyed a comparatively long period of boom繁荣.And In 1950,the ping-pong was confirmed as

the national ball of China.Three years later, the National Table Tennis Association of China was founded.And in the same year,it joined the International Table Tennis Federation（联合会）.

At first,some European countries looked down upon on Chinese penholding players’ fast attacking style.(直拍快攻打法）That means 要用英文解释一下这个专业名词.But it proved to be a milestone in the history of world table tennis history and becomes a traditional skill in Chinese table tennis until today.One of the most representative player is 刘国梁,who won a Grand Slam（大满贯）and serves as the chief coach in Chinese national table tennis team now. The Grand Slam means to win the champion in the Olympics, World Table Tennis Championships(世界乒乓球锦标赛) and the World Cup .And in the history of table tennis,there are all seven winners who have won a Grand Slam, and six of them are Chinese players.I think all of us feel very proud of it, right？ In my opinion, one of the reasons for Chinese table tennis’ success is that it’s a small ball game,and so it suits we Chinese physiques(体格、体形）.Another important reason is that the players have devoted great efforts in training. And (at the end of my speech,)let’s show our sincere respect and admiration to those who have made contributions to the development of Chinese table tennis. That’s all . Thank you very much!
