When I was 11, my job that summer was to look after my two-year-old brother, Joey. One thing that helped me not to get bored was spending time with my neighbor, a young mother-to-be.
They called her Catuzza. During the day, she missed her husband a lot. So she enjoyed the company Joey and I provided. She always smiled as if she was wondering about her own child in her body. Sometimes when the baby kicked, she would let us feel it.
After that summer, my family moved to another part of the city.
