The Guinness World Records people are at it again, finding the oldest person to sit through years college and walk off with a degree.
The record—a 95-year-old received a degree in journalism in 2004 from the University of Oklahoma.
Nola Ochs is 95 and on May 12th, 2004 she became the world’s oldest person to be awarded a college degree.
She didn’t plan to break records. She just loved to learn as a teenager on a Hodgeman County farm, then as a teacher after graduating from high school and later as a farm wife and mother. “I came here with no thought of it being an unusual thing at all, ”she said. “It was something I wanted to do. It gave me a feeling of satisfaction. I like to study and learn. ”She started taking classes at a community college after her husband died in 1972. A class here and there over the years, and she was close to having enough hours for an undergraduate degree.
Last fall, Ochs moved the 100 miles from her farm to an apartment at Fort Hays State University to complete the final 30 hours to get a general studies degree with an emphasis on history. “After graduation? I’m going to seek employment on a cruise ship as a storyteller, ”she said, smiling. [写作内容]

The other night, I had to go to a meeting, which lasted past my daughter’s bedtime. While teaching in a primary school, I learned how influential parents can be as children learn to write. So when our daughter first began to scribble(乱涂) , I became attracted by her work. I offered praise for her efforts, for I found that scribbling is far more complex and important than I had realized. It was obvious that her scribbles, apart from being lovely art objects, showed a lot about her understanding of the world of writing.
Gradually, our family began writing a great deal. I sensed that writing helped Laurel learn how to read. As a matter of fact, by observing my own child and her friends and by reading professional books, I became more and more clear about how writing develops and how parents can help children become eager writers.
