156、stand to do/ doing something
(1)、当
stand 作半系动词使用时,不但保留了本身的意义(站
着),而且还带了一个形容词表语,此时,可把句子看成两部分,如:Tod stood there dumbfounded 可看成:Tod stood there/ Tod was dumbfounded 有些语法家把这种现象称为双谓语结构。类似的词有:go, run, sit, lie 等。
(2)、stand up 表示一时性的动作,与表示时点的状语连用;stand 是表示持续性状态。如:He stood (要加:up) at once/ He stood (要去:up) for hours;
(3)、地点状语放句首,且后跟come, lie, stand, walk等不及物动词时,常用倒装。
(4)、stand表示“忍受”常用于否定句和疑问句中,后接名词或动名词。如:I can’t stand waiting any longer再等下去我可受不了; 练习:

(1)、such
放在a/ an 之前,要放在all, no, one, few, some, any,
many, several 等词后,后跟单数或复数名词。名词前有定冠词、指示代词或物主代词时,不能用such。
(2)、no such 后接单数名词,名词前不用a/ an; not such 后的名词前要用a/ an;
(3)、 such as 其后列举的人或物只能是前面的一部分,如指全部应该用namely/ that is, 并用逗号与句子隔开。如:I have 3 friends here, namely, Tom, Mary and Ann. 作为举例,如果后面是一个句子,必须用for example/ for instance;
(4)、只能说:such … as,不能说: such … which/ such … like; (5)、such (不用:so) little animals;
(6)、such as后接it is/ was/ were,构成带有让步意义的插入句,
表示轻蔑或歉意。如:He won’t refuse to give you his help, such as it is.尽管他的帮助不过如此,他仍不会拒绝帮助你。 练习:
