GU: Actually, the internet technology can help bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. For example, the government invested money to make the internet access possible in provinces of Gui Zhou and Gan Su, because the government realized it is impossible to have so many teachers in those areas.

Reporter: perhaps the local officials in those areas are just attracted by the idea of education, but nothing has been seriously translated int9o action.

GU: You are right. The problem of local authorities is that they have the technologies, but they don’t make good use of these technologies.

Reporter: the biggest problem that E-education is confronted with is probably the development of good courseware. What are the difficulties involved in this respect? 记者: 网络教育面临的最大问题可能就是优秀课程软件的开发。这方面的困难有哪些呢 ?

GU: well, one of the difficulties is that it is hard to develop courseware simply by putting in the concepts of learning process. We have to humanize technology. This is the greatest challenge in courseware development.

Reporter: I learned that you are working with the British Ministry of Education to start a joint project. Does it mean that you are relying on imported courseware from Britain?

记者:我听说你们现在正和英国教育部合作搞一个项目。这是不是说你现在依赖的是英国进口来的课程软件?

GU: no, that’s not the case. Our collaboration with the U.K. is focused on language teaching and educational philosophy. These are the two areas where we really have a lot to learn from them.

Reporter: I have a question about conducting examinations online. How do you make sure the results of the examinations are reliable?

记者:我有个关于网络考试的问题。你们如何确保考试的可靠性呢?

GU: that’s the big headache for us at the mo0ment. We have developed the online testing program. However, we can’t implement it because we have no way to check whether the examine is the real examine.

Reporter: given the problem of taking examinations online, how can you persuade your students to accept the online exam as a viable option?

记者:既然网络考试存在问题,你们如何说服学生来接受网络考试,把其作为一个可行的选择呢?

顾:我们采取了一个第三方政策。所谓第三方政策就是说,我们授权教育部的考试中心替我们举行考试。

GU: we have adopted the third party policy. By the third party policy is meant we authorize the Examination Center under the Ministry of Education to conduct examinations for us.

记者:中国的公众似乎不太了解Telfort,您能介绍一下吗?

Reporter: well it seems that Chinese public doesn’t know much about Telfort. Would you please give a brief introduction to it?

Wiel: Telfort is a mobile operator that has experienced rapid development and offers several advanced services. It currently provides mobile telephone service to the whole of Netherlands and is the third largest corporation in the Dutch mobile market.

威尔: Telfort 是一家发展迅速的移动运营商,提供的几项服务也很先进.现在它为荷兰全国提供移动电话服务, 是荷兰移动公司的第三大公司.

Reporter:Since Telfort is such a powerful company, it must attach much importance to the new technology of 3G. so what’s Telfort’s view in regards to 3G developing strategies?

Wiel: Generally speaking, Telfort’s view in regards to 3G development strategies is that development and services should be carried out step-by-step. The development of 3G dose not only reflect our development demands, but we also see it as a necessary choice. 威尔:总体来讲, Telfort在3G发展策略方面的看法是开发和服务都应逐步发展开.开发3G不仅反映了我们的发展要求,也是必须作出的一个选择.

记者:您能说得再具体一点吗?为什么这是一个必须作出的选择呢? Reporter: Can you be more specific? Why is it a necessary choice?

Wiel: In Europe, most operators are required to implement 3G network construction before 2007, or they will be kicked out of the industry. In other words, we must acquire 3G technology in order to keep our license.

威尔:欧洲要求大多数运营商在2007年前着手建设3G网络,否则就要被踢出这个行业.换句话说,我们必须拥有3G技术才能执业. 记者:那么3G网络会建在荷兰的那些地区呢?

Reporter:Where will the 3G network be built in Netherlands.

Wiel: The 3G network will at first be centered in metropolitan or developed areas, but it will gradually spread out to include all the Netherlands.

Reporter:It is the commom goal of Telfort and Huawei to build an efficient, economic and flexible 3G network. Hoe do you see the perspective for your cooperation?

Wiel:Here, I want to emphasize again that Huawei has proved to be a very good cooperating partner. It will be there to help us whenever we have problems or difficulties.

management for over decades. It has become part of my life, my life passion. During this week’s visit in China, I am glad to see that China is catching up very quickly in hotel management with the international standards.

has made great progress in the past two decades. In the decades of experience in hotel management, what are the key elements in hotel management? ? Turner: First, of course, are people or human resources. You can only do right things with

right people. Recognizing that a passion for excellence cascades from the upper levels of an organization, successful hotels must carefully select the numbers of its executive team.

? 首先是人才或人力资源。只有拥有了合适的人才才能做出成功的事业。我们深知对

卓越的热忱追求必须从酒店高层人员做起,因此酒店的高层人员必须经过精挑细选。

? Is it because of your focus on the importance of managerial teams and talents that you

now engaged in the education and research of hotel management? ? Turner: Yes, that’s part of the reason. Trainings in universities do play a significant role in

producing future stars of hotel management. ? 这的确是原因之一,大学中的训练对于培养未来的酒店管理 之星的确发挥了重要的

? 记者:另外的关键因素又是什么呢? ? What are the other key elements?

? Turner: I think a consistent value system is also very important in hotel management. A

successful hotel should possess ideas like: “customer loyalty a key driver of our business”, “We will demonstrate honesty, care and integrity in all relationships”, etc. Normally the top hotel groups have value systems that guide every aspect of their operation.

? 我认为一个贯穿始终的价值体系对于酒店管理也是十分重要的。一个成功的酒店应

印象深刻。 ? I’ve also got to know the corporate culture statement or mission statement of some

famous hotel groups and they are very impressive. ? Turner: That’s true. Corporate culture and value system are the soul for a hotel or hotel

group. The hotel business, in its essence, is dealing with people and bringing a feeling of home to the customers.

? I’ve got another more specific question. In China, the business travelers are the main

group of customers for higher class hotels. Is there anything that hotels should pay special attention to in terms of accommodating the needs of business travelers? ? Turner: There’re many differences between business travelers and people on vacation. We

have to study the need of those business travelers and then meet their needs. For example, you must have fast check-in and check-out and VIP check-in for distinguished customers of course.

? 商务旅客和度假的旅客的确有很多不同。我们要研究这些商务旅客的特点,然后满

足他们的需要。比如说,快速的入住和退房是十分重要的,还需要有专门为贵宾而设的VIP入住方式。

? Good room service is important as business people may not have time to dine out .You

also have to make sure that the communication facilities in the room like internet connection is convenient. Although they seem to be minor, we can tell a good hotel from the bad ones just from those details.

? 同时客房服务也是很重要,因为商务旅客不一定有时间去外边吃饭。同时,要保证

客房里的通讯设备,比如连接因特网要十分的便捷。尽管以上的几点看起来很微不足道,但是正是这些细节将好的酒店和不好的酒店区分开来。

? Ollila: Nokia, for centuries, is a name of a town in the middle of Finland where the

company was established 135 years ago. So the town gave the name to the company. First it was a paper-making company. Then it produced cables. From cable we entered electronics which enabled us to move into the telecommunications industry and now we specialize in mobile phone production.

主持人: 自从您1992年执掌诺基亚公司以来,公司发生了翻天覆地的变化,总资产已经有了一千亿美元,我想知道您是如何使公司如此成功的呢?

Ollila: I always would like to say there are two things: a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck.

Ollila: (laugh) But on a more serious note, I think we have got a concept that we followed very consistently. First of all, we want to concentrate on telecommunications, especially mobile phone communications. Secondly, we believe, what we’ve chosen, the mobile phone communication, will be a very strong growth area all over the world. I am happy that our choice was right.
