Passage 1
Mr. Perkin stood at the bus-stop and watched the cars go by. Many of the cars were new Beta 400s, and most of them were yellow. Mr. Perkin always wore the same clothes as other men, ate the same food as other people, and did the same things after work, and at the end of the week, Mr. Perkin did not like to be different.
The following week, Mr. Perkin bought a new, bright yellow Beta 400s. He was satisfied with it, and drove to work in it the very next day. He was even more satisfied with his new car, when he saw all the other Beta 400s, in front, behind, and on both sides of him.
Mr. Perkin parked(停车) his car in a big car-park(停车场) near his office, and walked the rest of the way. But when he came back at five o'clock, there were so many bright yellow Beta 400s in the car-park that he did not know which car was his. He tried his key in some of the cars, but people passing by gave him a look he didn't like. So he stopped.
Poor Mr. Perkin had to wait nearly two hours until his was the only yellow Beta 400s in the car-park.

Passage 2
“It hurts me more than you,” and “This is for your own good.” These are the statements my mother used to make years ago when I had to learn Latin, clean my room, stay home and do homework.
That was before we entered the permissive period in education in which we decided it was all right not to push our children to achieve their best in school.
The schools and the educators made it easy on us. They taught that it was all right to be parents who take a let-alone policy. We stopped making our children do homework. We gave them calculators, turned on the television, left the teaching to the teachers and went on vacation.
2
Now teachers, faced with children who have been developing at their own pace for the past 15 years, are realizing we have made a terrible mistake. One such teacher is Sharon Klompus who says of her students “so passive” and wonders what happened. Nothing was demanded of them, she believes. Television contributes to children?s passivity. “We?re not training kids to work any more,” says Klompus. “We?re talking about a generation of kids who have never been hurt or hungry. They have learned somebody will always do it for them. Instead of saying ?go look it up?, you tell them the answer. It takes greater energy to say no to a kid.”
Yes, it does. It takes energy and it takes work. It?s time for parents to end their vacation and come back to work. It is time to take the car away, to turn off the TV, to tell them it hurts you more than them but it?s for their own good. It?s time to start telling them no again.
25. To such children as described in the passage .
A. it is easier to say no than to say yes B. neither is easy to say yes or to say no C. it is easier to say yes than to say no
D. neither is difficult to say yes or to say no
26. We learn from the passage that the author?s mother used to lay emphasis on .
A. learning Latin B. natural development C. discipline D. education at school
27. By “permissive period in education” the author means a time . A. when children are allowed to do what they wish to B. when everything can be taught at school C. when every child can be educated
D. when children are permitted to receive education 28. The main idea of the passage is that . A. parents should leave their children alone B. kids should have more activities at school C. it?s time to be more strict with our kids
D. parents should always set a good example to their kids
Passage 3
Do you find getting up in the morning so difficult that it?s painful? This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you labor through your work you may say that you?re ?hot?. That?s true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak. For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered why this is so, but it leads to such familiar monologues (自言自语) as: “Get up, John! You?ll be late for work again!” The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening. Much family quarrelling ends when
