At a recent job fair in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, some employers offered great welfare packages, including insurance, holiday presents and paid vacations. These companies were rushed by many jobseekers who believe that working in such places would make them feel like home.
An article from The Workers’ Daily says if a company fails to provide its employees with a sense of belonging, it will not be able to keep them with a satisfactory salary alone.
The article says the job fair serves as a good example. An employer must keep in mind that providing its employees with good conditions has become vital in maintaining the company’s competitive edge.
Nowadays, many companies try every possible means to reduce the cost of labour, ignoring or even trampling on employees’ rights and interests. The fact is that some companies are unable to find new workers even with increased payment.
A unique company culture with human-oriented management is the key to successfully keeping good employees. The article concludes that in a society where individual development is more important than ever, providing a sense of belonging for employees should be the most important thing of a company. Unit 2
Ⅰ. 任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,根据短文中的信息,完成文后表格。(每空一词) Divide and control“This is a two-day course with a 40-question test at the end,” the teacher said.
It had been a busy week. I wanted to spend the weekend alone. I wanted to relax and make a good meal for myself and prepare for the next week. But I had to take this course I was attending once every two years and without pay. Why not just review? And I discovered there was a practical aspect to the test as well. I wasn’t up to it.
But life had taught me many things and at forty-four, I was finally learning how to handle pressure. I immediately got out my pens, several colors of them. I began to write down everything the teacher was saying. Secondly I asked questions. Teachers rarely had anything structured when they were giving lectures. I created the structure myself with question after question. Thirdly I talked at break to the other students—about the material. I forgot about the weather or the latest movie. I began to ask questions, and the other students responded. Now we were all learning and that felt even better.
I have been told that it takes a person about seventeen occurrences to learn a word in another language. Repetition is very important in learning. In writing my own notes, in asking questions about the teacher’s lectures and in asking questions of my fellow students, I had already reviewed the material three times. That evening I wound make up and take a rest for myself. That would be two more times.
That weekend was over. I passed the tests, both written and practical. But I also passed another test, the test of stress. I’ve never handled stress well, but I am learning to take things one step at a time, to break things down and make them smaller and manageable.
More and more aspects of my life are being handled this way. If a payment is too much, divide it into parts. If a course of study is too long, divide it into days. If an art project is too big, divide it into modules of some kind.
Life was good that weekend. Life is good.
